I FIRST HEARD THE CACHE VALLEY DRIFTERS when I bought their first album. I immediately recognized the wonderful mandolin playing of Bill Griffin, having heard him on Kate Wolf's recordings. The Cache Valley Drifters are unique, with great arrangements, original material, and are superb musicians. I have always loved Bill's strong rthymic chord patterns, and his flowing, melodic solo's. Their first three albums, "The New Cache Valley Drifters", "Step Up To Big Pay", and "Tools of the Trade, a live album, are out of print, but if you come across them, grab them!

Fortunately, they have two recordings on CD. The first, entitled "White Room", showcases their strong songwriting skills, and their unique harmony and musicianship. They also have excellent taste in choosing other material to apply the CVD treatment. Who else but the Cache Valley Drifters would record a Cream song? But this is not some novelty tune. The CVD have turned this tune into a driving, high energy song, with tight harmony, and great instrumental breaks.

The Cache Valley Drifters have recently self-produced a new recording, available on their Web site at:

The new Cache Valley Drifters CD is mighty fine indeed. This release is heavy on their interpretation of others songs, such as "Rings", "Drift Away", "Evangelina", "Damn Your Eyes", and "Delta Lady". I'm especially pleased with the inclusion of Kate Wolf's "Eyes of a Painter", considering Bill Griffin's association with Kate. The CVD do honor to Kate, and her wonderful songwriting. If you haven't heard the CVD, check your local music dealer for "White Room", and visit their Web site for their new mightyfine.net release

Note to the world at large: It's pronounced "CASH"
